MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is contemplating the potential for forging protection alliances with Europe.

In a gathering with United Kingdom (UK) Overseas Secretary James Spencer Cleverly in Malacañang on Tuesday, Marcos mentioned there’s a new improvement when it comes to safety and protection.

“It isn’t conventional for us to look to Europe… to hunt alliances and partnerships, particularly on the subject of safety and protection,” the Philippine chief advised Cleverly.

“However that appears to be the evolution of geopolitics nowadays, so it’s a welcome evolution for my part,” he mentioned.

Whereas Marcos didn’t give particulars on these new navy initiatives, his administration has repeatedly asserted Philippines’ sovereignty over West Philippine Sea.

For his half, Cleverly mentioned after assembly Overseas Secretary Enrique Manalo, he realized that UK and Philippines share many related pursuits.
